Daniel Gillies: Career Facts, Family Claims and Current Work

Full name: Daniel Joshua Gillies · Birthplace: Winnipeg, Canada, according to TV Tropes (filmography summary) · Best-known role: Elijah Mikaelson on The Vampire Diaries and The Originals, according to Vampire Diaries Wiki (Fandom)

Seven fields frame the profile, and one pattern runs through them: the professional fields carry named sources, while family, height and accent have none.

What happened with Daniel Gillies and his wife?

Gillies was married to actress Rachael Leigh Cook from 2004 to 2021, per Entertainment Weekly (celebrity magazine). The research does not document how or why the marriage ended, so this page offers no cause.

Is Daniel Gillies in a relationship?

• According to Wikipedia (online encyclopedia), he has been in a relationship with cellist Julia Misaki since 2021.
• That single encyclopedia entry is the only source on the partnership in the research.

Are Daniel Gillies and Julia Misaki still together?

• No dated source in the research confirms their status today.
• The 2021 start date rests on the single encyclopedia entry above.

What is the age difference between Julia Misaki and Daniel Gillies?

• Misaki’s birth date does not appear in the research.
• Without both birth dates from sources, no age gap can be stated.

Does Daniel Gillies have a child?

• No child is confirmed by a reliable source in the research.
• The research contains no report of a child, so this page does not state one.

What this means: the marriage has named sources and dates, while the current partnership rests on one encyclopedia entry, so treat that part as the weaker claim.

The implication: the marriage is the only personal-life claim here that can be cited without qualification, so it is the one a reader can repeat with a source attached.

How old was Daniel Gillies when filming The Vampire Diaries?

The research includes no dated production record for when filming began, so this page does not calculate a filming-start age. Gillies was born March 14, 1976, according to Wikipedia (online encyclopedia), and The Vampire Diaries premiered September 10, 2009, per IMDb News (industry database). Those two dates put him at 33 on the premiere date, which is simple arithmetic rather than a filming record.

Did Daniel Gillies like Nina Dobrev?

• The research holds no direct statement from Gillies about Nina Dobrev.
• Feelings about a co-star need a named quote, and none appears in the research.

Are Joseph Morgan and Daniel Gillies still friends?

• No named statement on a friendship with Joseph Morgan appears in the research.
• Without one, this page does not describe the relationship as friendly or strained.

The catch: co-star stories draw the most curiosity, and this record has no direct quote to support either answer.

What is Daniel Gillies doing now?

• Gillies stars as Joel Williams, a missionary, in the Ecuador-set possession horror film Shaman, released August 8, 2025, in theaters and digital (IMDb News (industry database))
• He plays Jake Campbell in Sight Unseen, a CTV and CW series that premiered in 2024 (TVmaze (credits database))
• The CW reportedly had not decided on renewal as of June 2024, according to Just Jared (celebrity news site)
• Collider reports that Gillies wants Sight Unseen to resemble David Fincher’s Mindhunter and expects a second season (Collider (film and TV news))

Shaman is the only film in the research with a 2025 release date, and no later role carries a date.

Where does Daniel Gillies live now?

• Filmy Focus lists him as living in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, according to Filmy Focus (celebrity profile site)
• No second source confirms the listing, and the research rates it low confidence.

What this means: the current-work picture rests on one 2025 release and one series with an open renewal, so readers should not assume an active slate.

Is Daniel Gillies’ accent real?

The research cannot answer this with a sourced explanation. It contains no interview or biography that addresses his accent, so the question stays open here.

Where was Daniel Gillies born and raised?

• Birthplace: Winnipeg, Canada, according to TV Tropes (filmography summary)
• A move to New Zealand at a young age appears only in an unnamed search snippet, so this page does not attribute it to a source.

The trade-off: a sourced birthplace is enough to state, but it says nothing about how he speaks, so readers should not link the two.

How tall is Daniel Gillies?

No official height figure appears in the research, so this page does not publish one. A height claim needs a named, dated source before it is worth printing.

Is there an official height figure for Daniel Gillies?

• No cited height figure exists in the research.
• Photos and social media posts are not used to estimate height here.
• With no published figure to compare, there is no disagreement between sources to report.

The implication: a height figure without a named source is a guess, and this page leaves it out.

The pattern: every personal-life answer on this page either cites a named, dated source or states that the research contains none.

Timeline signal

• 2010: Gillies is cast as Elijah Mikaelson on The Vampire Diaries, initially as a recurring role, according to Wikipedia (online encyclopedia)
• 2012: Broken Kingdom, written, directed and starred in by Gillies (TV Guide (bio page))
• Seasons 1–3 (2012–2015): Gillies plays Dr. Joel Goran in the Canadian series Saving Hope, according to Vampire Diaries Wiki (Fandom)
• January 23, 2014: Gillies appears as Elijah in the 100th episode of The Vampire Diaries, “500 Years of Solitude,” according to TVmaze (credits database)

The pattern: dated entries cluster in the early 2010s and thin out after 2014, which is why the later career needs the separate checks above.

Confirmed or unclear

Confirmed facts

• Marriage to Rachael Leigh Cook from 2004 to 2021, per Entertainment Weekly (celebrity magazine)
• The Originals premiered October 3, 2013, as the Vampire Diaries spin-off, according to Assignment X (entertainment news)
• Broken Kingdom, a 2012 film written, directed and starred in by Gillies, according to TV Guide (bio page)

What’s unclear

• Residence: only one low-confidence listing exists, with no second source
• Children: no reliable source reports one
• Height: no cited figure in the research
• Accent origin: no interview or biography addresses it
• In a 2021 Reddit AMA, Gillies said he was writing something episodic and planned to shoot a proof of concept in 2022. The research rates this low confidence (Reddit (r/movies AMA))
• A Reddit user’s May 2026 post says he did not hold an active role. The research labels it unverified community speculation (Reddit (r/TheVampireDiaries thread))

Why this matters: six open items outnumber the three confirmed ones, which is the honest shape of a profile built on a thin record.

What Gillies has said

“I don’t think about him too much to be honest. It’s well in the past.”

Gillies is also quoted saying, “You can’t run from who you are,” according to CompareTV (filmography listing). The listing gives no date for the remark, so it stays undated here.

The implication: the only dated quote on record about Elijah is the 2021 AMA remark, so readers should not treat it as a current view of the role.
