Our Story
CivicInsight.uk was founded by Civic Insight Media Ltd. to address a critical gap in British public affairs journalism. For too long, the focus of national media has been fixed on the tactics of Westminster, neglecting the substantive work of governance: how policy is implemented, how local councils allocate resources, and how public institutions serve citizens. This democratic deficit leaves the public and professionals without the accessible, evidence-led analysis they need to understand the decisions shaping their lives and communities.
Our editorial philosophy
Under the direction of Editor-in-Chief Rebecca Langford, our editorial philosophy is grounded in the belief that rigorous reporting on civic life is essential for a healthy democracy. We are committed to non-partisan, factual journalism. Our team prioritises source verification, methodological transparency, and clear separation between news reporting and opinion. We seek to illuminate how political decisions, public institutions and social change affect everyday life, the economy and democratic participation. Every piece of content, whether a daily news article or an in-depth investigation, is reviewed against our strict editorial standards, overseen by our Standards & Fact-Checking Lead, Michael Trent.
How our newsroom works
To ensure depth and expertise, we organise our newsroom around specialist desks. This structure allows our journalists to develop deep knowledge of their beats and produce high-quality, reliable content. Our team includes:
- Samuel Hartley, Managing Editor – responsible for daily editorial planning, news prioritisation and production coordination.
- Nadia Collins, Public Affairs Editor – covering UK politics, government agencies and public debate.
- Edward Miles, Policy & Research Correspondent – focusing on data analysis, official documents and policy research.
- Hannah Brooks, Community & Local Government Editor – reporting on local authorities, regional development and citizen issues.
- Michael Trent, Standards & Fact-Checking Lead – ensuring accuracy, transparency and accountability in our reporting.
Full details on each editor’s role and background can be found on the Our Team page.
