Editorial Policy

Editorial Process

Every article published on CivicInsight.uk is reviewed by a qualified editor before publication. The editorial team follows a structured workflow: reporters and correspondents submit drafts, which are assigned to the relevant section editor for initial review. The Managing Editor, Samuel Hartley, oversees daily editorial planning and coordinates the production schedule. For stories involving sensitive topics — including criminal justice, safeguarding, public health emergencies, electoral integrity, or matters of significant public controversy — additional fact-checking and source verification are overseen by Michael Trent, Standards & Fact-Checking Lead. No content is published without at least one editorial review. The Editor-in-Chief, Rebecca Langford, retains overall responsibility for publication decisions, editorial policy, and ethical standards.

Independence

CivicInsight Media Ltd. funds its operations through advertising, commercial partnerships, and clearly labelled sponsored content. Editorial decisions are made independently of any commercial or political interests. Commercial partners never influence the selection, framing, or timing of editorial content unless that content is explicitly marked as sponsored. All sponsored content is clearly identified with a visible label and a link to our funding and ownership disclosure page. Our journalists and editors do not accept payments, gifts, or favours from sources, and any potential conflicts of interest are declared to the Standards & Fact-Checking Lead.

Accuracy and Sourcing Standards

We are committed to accuracy in every piece we publish. Our journalists rely on primary sources wherever possible: official documents, government datasets, peer-reviewed research, court records, public registers, and direct interviews with named individuals. Anonymous sources are used only when the information is of clear public interest and the source’s identity must be protected for legitimate reasons of safety or professional jeopardy. In such cases, the reason for anonymity is explained in the article. All sources are evaluated for credibility, timeliness, and potential bias. Detailed standards for source selection and verification are set out in our Sources & Standards guide. The fact-checking process, including procedures for pre-publication review and post-publication correction, is described in our Fact-Checking Policy.

Attribution and Named Writers

We attribute all information to its source, and we name the journalist or correspondent responsible for each article. By-lines appear on every news story, analysis piece, and in-depth report. Where multiple contributors are involved, all are credited. Our editorial team is listed on the Our Team page, with contact details and areas of responsibility. Readers can contact any team member directly using the email addresses provided.

Update Dates Policy

Every article displays its original publication date. If an article is substantially revised after publication — for example, to correct a factual error, add important context, or reflect new developments — a “Last updated” date is added alongside the original publication date. Minor typographical corrections or formatting changes do not trigger an updated date. Material changes are noted in a revision log available upon request. Our Corrections Policy explains how errors are recorded and communicated.

Review Process for Specific Topics

Articles covering policy analysis, health, education, finance, or legal matters receive additional scrutiny. Policy pieces are reviewed by Edward Miles, Policy & Research Correspondent, who checks claims against official data and research. Health and education articles are reviewed by the relevant editor (Nadia Collins for national policy, Hannah Brooks for local government implementation) to ensure alignment with current guidance and institutional sources. Financial or legal content is reviewed for factual accuracy by a qualified team member or external specialist where necessary; such content is explicitly labelled as general information and not as professional advice.

AI and Automation Disclosure

CivicInsight.uk may use digital tools — including artificial intelligence and automation — to support research, data analysis, transcription, editing, formatting, and content review. These tools are never used to generate entire articles or to replace human editorial judgement. Every piece of editorial content published on this site is reviewed by a human editor before it goes live. The use of AI is always subject to our editorial guidelines, and any automated assistance is disclosed internally and logged. We do not publish AI-generated content without human oversight, and we remain transparent about the role of technology in our production process.

Readers should consult qualified professionals for advice specific to their circumstances. While we strive for accuracy and timeliness, we make no representations or warranties of any kind, express or implied, about the completeness, reliability, or suitability of the information presented. Any reliance you place on such information is strictly at your own risk.

We aim to acknowledge complaints within two working days and to investigate promptly. Our full procedures for handling complaints and issuing corrections are set out in the Corrections Policy.
